Ultrasonic Testing

Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT)

Real-time visualisation reduces inspection time

Phased Array UT

Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT) is an advanced non-destructive testing method that uses multiple ultrasonic elements in a single probe.

These elements are individually controlled to steer and focus the sound beam electronically, allowing fast, accurate inspections without moving the probe.

PAUT offers greater coverage and precision than traditional single-element ultrasonic testing.

A powerful and advanced NDT technique, Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT) enables fast, accurate, and reliable inspection of critical assets. Clients benefit from high-resolution, real-time visualisation of defects and significantly reduced inspection times compared to conventional UT methods.

Key Advantages:

  • Detect critical defects such as cracks, lack of fusion, and porosity in structural welds
  • Map corrosion and wall loss with precision through detailed thickness profiling
  • Faster inspections – scan up to 3× quicker than conventional UT
  • Real-time imaging for immediate assessment and faster decision-making
  • No need to move the probe – steer, focus, and scan electronically
  • Ideal for complex geometries – excellent coverage of welds, nozzles, and difficult-to-access areas
  • Accurate defect sizing and positioning to support repair planning and fitness-for-service assessments
  • Digital data recording for traceability, reporting, and long-term integrity management.

Used alongside our full suite of ultrasonic testing tools, PAUT helps maintain offshore asset integrity efficiently – without interrupting operations.
