Key renewables appointment heralds expansion for TRAC Renewables

As a leading provider of industrial inspection, maintenance and repair services, we are set to further our commitment to the energy transition thanks to the launch of a new division which will further enhance our position in the renewables market.

IM&R leader TRAC Energy has a long history of successfully supporting offshore energy operations and has just unveiled the addition of a renewables-focused talent acquisition arm.  Recruitment specialist John Lamond has been brought on board to head up the new service in a role that will be pivotal in sourcing candidates for TRAC’s renewables projects and providing external clients with a professional recruitment solution.

John’s career spans almost two decades and he brings to the team a wealth of recruitment and business development experience across the engineering, construction, industrial and offshore sectors and this will be crucial to driving future growth.

John is joined by recruitment consultant Rebecca Wilson and the pair will build the team to keep pace with activity in Scotland and beyond.

The appointments continue a hiring strategy that has seen recent expansion of service delivery (project management, engineering, analytics and technology) and senior management teams.  Further appointments are planned to support new technical products and services and TRAC Energy is currently participating in the Fit4Offshore Renewables scheme.

Founded in Aberdeen in 1999, TRAC Energy employs circa 200 staff with annual revenues approaching £20 million.  It is part of the TRAC International Group which provides first-class engineering products and services to the global energy, telecoms and infrastructure sectors with a total workforce of around 400 employees.

Early engagement with onshore wind-prospecting, offshore support during UK round two construction, the development of a rotor blade LEP product, and a strong IM&R presence in traditional energy sectors, positioned TRAC Energy to strongly support the energy transition.  Enhanced focus came in 2020 as momentum gathered and today a dedicated renewables team, headed by Joel Telling, delivers seamless “through life” asset assurance solutions, acting as a specialist partner for the renewable sector both in the UK and leveraging the Group’s extensive international footprint.

We are now poised to gain earlier access to project lifecycles by taking to market an even more integrated offering.

Commenting on the launch, our Head of Renewables Joel Telling said: “We have a long-standing commitment to creating an expert team with a shared vision to deliver best-in-class renewables solutions.  Expansion of that team to offer professional talent acquisition alongside project IM&R services is a natural extension and will make a compelling value proposition for our current and prospective clients.

“As well as finding and recruiting trained and experienced staff for projects we’re involved in ourselves, our services will be in demand across the wider industry as renewables projects, and the need for good people who can hit the ground running, continue to gather pace.”

Our new Head of Talent Acquisition (Renewables) John Lamond added: “This is an exciting time to join the TRAC Energy renewables team and I look forward to using my years of experience to help unlock the potential of this new division.  TRAC Energy already has a range of highly transferrable products, services, experience, knowledge and skills which fit well within the renewables sector, so it makes sense to take all of that into the sphere of talent acquisition.

“In terms of our own team growth, I am also passionate about training and developing the next generation of recruiters and to working closely with training providers to gain the best candidates available for TRAC Renewables’ projects and the external market.  Our business will open up vital skill transfer opportunities for those seeking to begin new chapters in their energy sector careers.”

Wind Europe Copenhagen 2023

Head of Renewable Services Joel Telling, and Industry Specialist, Sol Judah, are looking forward to attending the upcoming Wind Europe 2023 Conference being held in Copenhagen, Denmark from the 25th – 27th of April.

Wind Europe is a jam-packed week with over 50 workshops and 250 speakers over the course of three days, and the conference is bigger than ever this year with more than 600 companies present over the course of the event. The 2023 event primarily focuses on all current aspects of wind energy, supply chain, permitting, grids, sustainability, and more.

With our goal to enhance our involvement within the wind energy sector, we are thrilled to be a part of the SDI (Scottish Development International) Trade Mission to Wind Europe 2023.

The trip will be a great opportunity to take advantage of SDI’s guided introductions to important industry players, in order to discover new potential opportunities for TRAC Renewables. We look forward to meeting potential clients from around the world as well as exchanging ideas with our Danish colleagues.

On April 23rd, Joel and Sol will fly into Copenhagen. The Scottish Delegation and Global Scots are hosting a welcome lunch for our team on the 24th, where they will also attend a market briefing session, business reception and a delegation dinner, all in preparation for the conference kicking-off the following day.

Throughout the event, Joel and Sol will attend a variety of ‘Meet the Buyer’ sessions throughout their morning, including meetings hosted by Bladt Industries, PGE Baltica, Siemens Gamesa and European Energy. The event will be filled with networking opportunities allowing delegates to continue their conversations on today’s wind energy sector as it stands and to discuss ideas on how it can be improved and developed.

Engaging in events like this allows our team to network with new international colleagues, partners and potential clients as well as exploring different opportunities that may not otherwise be available. It is highly important to showcase our expertise and capabilities on a continental and global stage.
